Recession or not, the air does smell different to a fresh college graduate like me.  There is a plethora of opportunities waiting to be grabbed, organisations waiting to bring on board those who ‘best fit’ their required profiles.  It’s a seductive, seductive world.

 

Quick question though – how long would this fresh graduate stay within one organisation? Three years? Perhaps five?

15th March 2009 was the 50th anniversary of Lijjat Papad, a Poppadam making social entrepreneurial venture that started as a desperate attempt to generate more income by seven semi literate Gujarati house wives in Mumbai. What started with a vision of independence and a loan of Rs. 80 (around $1.5) today enjoys an annual turn over of over $100m.

On 17 October, we hosted an event with our members and partners Wragge & Co. on the rather interesting and thought provoking topic of The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) at 142, Holborn. Chairing the event was Tony Manwaring, CEO, Tomorrow's Company with a brilliant speaker panel of Mr. Pavan Sukhdev and Mr. Herman Mulder.

It seemed almost too good to be true when a woman and a black man started campaigning in the presidential run for one of the most powerful countries in the world. And now, almost two years hence, the fact that one of them has won sets an example describing a whole nation’s desire and effort to be a force for good.
