Boards are operating in ever more complex and challenging business environments. At the same time, their behaviour and standards are coming under increasing external scrutiny, for example through the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) and Walker Reviews in the UK. This publication champions the concept of a ‘mandate’ which sets out the ‘essence’ of the ‘character’ and distinctiveness of the company. This report presents the findings and reflections of the judging panel for the ACCA UK Awards 2007. It summarises the strengths of all those reports that won an award and offers technical recommendations to improve further the standard of reporting in the UK. Tomorrow's Company were the theme partner for the awards - the theme was on strategy and governance.
