Alice Tepper Marlin talks about how she moved from financial analysis to developing a single global measurement system for workplace standards.She does not describe how her company's approach works, but she talks clearly about a multistakeholder approach (so to some this might seem like a bit of a sales pitch) but she talks passionately about the importance of every sector of society working together: how activists can help and inspire business to do the job really well, working with Trades Unions to solve problems in a realistic and achievable manner.She describes how a multistakeholder approach means a better deal for all those stakeholders: employees and businesses, investors and civil society.

The Global Fellowship Program was launched for young people to gain an understanding of what it will take to compete in, and contribute to the new global economy. We interviewed four young students who visited Brazil, India and China as a part of this programme, wherein they went to a local school, lived with local host parents and worked with a multinational organisation. As a Global Fellow, Simon visited Shanghai for six weeks. A student at Cambridge now, Simon, though stricken with the obvious difference between the rich and the poor, illustrates how they are all underpinned by one value system.  Having worked with Virgin Atlantic, he talks about the world becoming a smaller place, where globalisation is here to stay, and Britain need to rise up and see it as an opportunity, and not a threat.

She talks about the high ambition and commitment levels of the Brazilian students she studied with, and on the business side of the experience she reveals how the young generation now understands businesses of today are becoming more and more sustainability/csr focussed, and carry out pioneering work involving the local communities.

While living, studying and working there he realised how one must be a global citizen of the world. Having worked with Cadbury’s in Brazil, he reemphasised the importance of competing with a global world, and how one must possess the social skills to live in this globalised world.

What struck her the most was the dedication of the Indian students toward education and the support from their parents and families for the same. She feels that British students are not only competing among each other, but with students all over the world. During her placement with Ernst and Young, she realised it is important for graduates to be prepared for the globalised world of work.
